Halloween is fast approaching, so now is the time to kick the spooky up to an 11, and immerse ourselves in all things ghoulish. For average cable consumer, that usually means waiting until the a network generously put something on TV; but for all of us cord cutters, the spooky is just a couple of clicks away.
Here’s a list of some delightfully devilish Halloween movies available to stream, and watch over-the-air, that are guaranteed to run a chill up your spine and fill your heart with terror!
There are few Halloween tales as old or as classic as the story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman; and there are few adaptations that are as bone chilling as Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. In this iteration, Johnny Depp plays the quirky Ichabod Crane as he’s called to the town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of macabre murders.
There are few movies that are better than the original, but one could reasonably make the case that Scream 2 is one of them. Directed by horror legend Wes Craven, this sequel to the classic horror-satire follows the unfortunate Sidney Prescott as she tries to put her life back together after the grizzly events of the original Scream; which, as you can guess, does not go according to plan.
From Dusk till Dawn
From Dusk till Dawn is a fantastically gory movie written by gore master Quentin Tarantino and directed by his good friend Robert Rodriguez. The movie starts out as your paint-by-number crime drama as the Gecko Brothers (player by George Clooney and Tarantino himself) shoot and sneak their way south of the border where they wait at a strip bar on their ride to a better life in Mexico. But this isn’t your every day strip bar… it’s run by vampires!
American Horror Story
Ok, so this is not a movie but your Halloween would NOT be complete without watching a few seasons of American Horror Story. Each season is a self contained story focusing on some spooky location; be it a haunted house, a creepy carnival, or a coven of witches in New Orleans. This is the perfect show to keep your spook levels high all month.
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Despite appearances, this is not your typical horror movie. Yes, a group of sexy teens converge on cabin in the wood and yes they all start dying. But this time it’s not the creepy rednecks doing the killing, but that won’t stop the said sexy teens from thinking so. It’s a classic case of mistaken identity, only this time with a lot more blood (trailer)!
Children of the Corn
There’s nothing worse than having your car break down, especially when your car breaks down in a town where everyone over the 18 is sacrificed to to a demonic deity. In Children of the Corn, that’s exactly what happens to our protagonists and you’ll definitely want to stick around until the end to find out what happens. And it’ also based off of a Stephen King book, so you know it’s extra spooky!
Watching movies and shows using your antenna can be quite satisfying, especially on a cold Halloween evening. Here are a few shows and movies you will want to tune into, or set your OTA DVR to record, this Halloween:
