Night owls need not fear that they will be lacking for entertainment options into the wee hours when they cut the cord. There are a lot of great free over the air late night TV shows to be enjoyed by cordcutters in addition to streaming media subscription service programming.
Here are some of the best late night TV shows available over the air with your Mohu antenna that you won’t want to miss!
Since 2003 Jimmy Kimmel has been entertaining audiences on ABC with his Jimmy Kimmel Live late night show. Utilizing a late night talk show formula that works for all the major networks, Jimmy Kimmel Live is the longest running late night TV show for ABC – 12 years and counting!
Filmed in Hollywood, California it’s also taped at 4:30pm each weekday. Despite not airing truly “live,” Jimmy Kimmel is a warm, funny and engaging host that appeals to a broad audience. Kimmel often pranks family members on the show, and frequently pokes fun at his buddy Matt Damon saying: “Our apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time.”
Taking over where retiree David Letterman left off, Stephen Colbert launched his own unique version of The Late Show on Tuesday, September 8th. The former host of The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, Stephen is a great comic as well as comedy writer. His Late Show is bound to be under some scrutiny, but don’t be surprised if quirky Colbert quickly makes it his own and takes late night to levels of fun.
James Corden has breathed fresh comedic air into The Late Late Show which was previously hosted by Craig Ferguson. A multi-talented performer, Corden has a light conversational style that’s engaging and fun. He’s a brit we are happy decided to transplant to late night in the US, and one we hope will never leave.
When Jay Leno retired from hosting The Tonight Show many were not convinced that Saturday Night Live alum Jimmy Fallon had the chops to fill the job. Now almost a year later, everyone is raving about Fallon’s ability to host with an improv comedy style all his own. Smooth monologues and oddball games played with eager guests make this a late night TV gem!
Returning from hiatus on October 3rd, SNL’s 41st season launches to audiences clamoring for more. (Sign up for the ticket lottery to see if you could be lucky enough to see a show live during the 2015-2016 season.)
Saturday Night Live continues to be a comedic force of nature that has launched the careers of countless comedians including Billy Crystal, Eddie Murray and Steve Martin. Saturday Night Live has had 141 cast members in all, many including Robert Downey Jr. and Jay Mohr – that will surprise you.
A Saturday Night Live launched comedian, Seth Meyers was also SNL’s head writer prior to taking over Late Night when the hosting spot was vacated by Jimmy Fallon as he moved to host The Tonight Show. Like his former SNL castmate Jimmy Fallon, funnyman Meyers is exceptionally gifted at improvisation and impersonations, some of which include Michael Caine, Sean Penn and Anderson Cooper.
