We are so glad to see that the Mohu Channels Kickstarter campaign has surpassed its goal and a big THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed. Every dollar goes to making Mohu Channels a success. On Friday morning we are at $46,000 which is 132% of our goal!
Several folks have asked us, “Why use Kickstarter to launch Mohu Channels?” That is a totally fair question and one we’d like to answer. First of all, crowd funding is a new and cutting edge way to source funding for a new project. Crowdfunding is used for anything from fashion design, to high tech, to movie making. We wanted to be part of that because it allows new and established cord-cutters to help make Mohu Channels a reality. We’ve received great questions and feedback on Kickstarter and Facebook and love being able to interact one-on-one with customers.
Mohu is a successful, yet privately funded company. All our profits are plowed back into the company. We don’t seek out venture capital funding, so crowd funding allows us to gain support of our “Mohuligans,” spread the word about cord-cutting, and maintain control of our products. Back when Mohu was first founded, the original owners were selling handmade Leaf antennas at a local flea market in Raleigh, NC. We’ve always believed in being our own bosses and Kickstarter allows us to stay true to our heritage.
Also, we are really excited about Mohu Channels. All the the blogs this week have been about Mohu Channels and we’re not done yet. There will be more blogs about Channels in the next few weeks as we move through the crowd funding process. Channels is a fantastic product and it will be a game-changer in the ever-morphing world of TV and TV content. It’s the first device to provide a clean user interface that allows the user to access OTA, streaming apps, and web without changing remotes or inputs.
The Kickstarter campaign will fund the final tooling and parts to take Channels into volume production. Mohu wants to give cord-cutters a chance to get a piece of the action early on. If you haven’t joined the Channels Kickstarter campaign, here is the link. Although we’ve met our initial goal, we still have Channels units available for sale at a discount. So all you cord cutters out there–help us spread the word and thank you for all your support.
